Metals & Minerals
Radiation SafetyInspections & Compliance

Metals used in Antiques
Radium‑treated dials and luminous paint (watches, clocks, instruments)
Uranium glass and ceramics with uranium‑based glazes (e.g., Vaseline glass)
Thorium‑containing items (old gas mantles and some industrial components)
Metal alloys or surface finishes that can concentrate naturally occurring radionuclides
If an object might be radioactive, limit handling, keep it isolated and do not dismantle. For measurement and safe handling consult an IAEA/NRC‑accredited radiation safety professional or certified lab. We offer inspection services — request an appraisal.
Use a properly calibrated Geiger counter or scintillation detector to measure radiation levels. Look for readings significantly above background levels (typical background ≈ 0.05–0.2 μSv/h). If you detect elevated radiation (e.g., >0.1 μSv/h above ambient), stop handling the item and seek expert advice.Note: Consumer Geiger counters can provide a preliminary indication but are not a substitute for a professional survey and dose assessment.
